Delivering Equality in Cancer Care-A Challenge for All

National Black & Minority Ethnic Cancer Awareness Conference
Thursday 29th November 2007

The ‘Delivering Equality in Cancer Care – A Challenge for All” conference, organised by leading BME health charities, Cancer Equality and The Afiya Trust, highlighted new, creative approaches to reduce health disparities in cancer care. Displays, presentations, showcasing good practice, sharing the experience of people affected by cancer and networking were all part of the one-day conference which was attended by health professionals and people affected by cancer.

The New National BME Cancer Awareness Week was launched by Dr Ian Gibson, MP, and will take place between 7th-13th July 2008. The week will be promoting cancer awareness and culturally appropriate cancer services within BME communities and how to access cancer services to better meet their needs.

Delegates also attended various workshops aimed at improving our understanding of different cultural needs, and how we can best respond to those needs. Workshops details are outlined below

The event ended with a mix of entertainment to celebrate the launch of the National BME Cancer Awareness Week.
