The Directory is a guide to nationally published booklets and leaflets on living with cancer. It includes materials that are produced for people affected by cancer, are intended for national distribution, have been produced in the United Kingdom in the last five years, are clearly marked with a date of publication, and are available in print.

Keeping healthy during Ramadan

How you can make sure you stay healthy during Ramadan:

  • Always maintain a balanced diet and drink adequate fluid between fasts
  • If your health is at risk because of serious illness, old age or pregnancy, speak to your doctor to check if it is safe for you to fast. Allah has given permission in the Quran to break the fast on medical advice.Read More

EMCAW Grant NOW OPEN

This year, community organisations and groups can apply for a small grant to help support a local cancer awareness event during Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week.

This grant programme is funded by Cancer Equality to help community organisations/charities host an event during Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW) between 11- 17 July 2011. The aim of the event must be to raise awareness about any cancer, its risk factors, signs, symptoms, possible prevention and treatments. The event should be aimed at Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities. A small grant will be awarded of up to £250.

Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW) 2011

Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW) is one week each year when we can all come together to raise awareness of cancer within ethnic minority communities in Britain.  This year EMCAW is between 11- 17 July 2011.

Too Quiet! Too Long!

This was the first event to be held outside London for Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week on 9th July 2010 to encourage increased awareness and early detection of cancer.  It was chaired by Rose Thompson Director  BMECC who opened the event with the reading of a letter by TV Personality and Entertainer, Des Coleman.  Dr Chris Packham,  Director of Public Health, Nottingham PCT was the guest speaker; the theme song "Too Quiet! Too Long" was performed by Freddie Kofi - BASCA Award Winner.  Cynthia Dwyer related her experience of losing her husband who had a late diagnosis of prostate cancer; Wayne told his story of recovering from prostate cancer and members from the Paul D'Auria Cancer Support Group, London expressed their experience of good practice and effective support for BME cancer patients.
