Cancer and Diet Information Project

Front Page

This is a three-year project funded by the Department of Health to develop dietary information for people from Asian, African, Caribbean and Chinese communities affected by cancer. It is widely acknowledged that cancer patients are nutritionally compromised as a consequence of their disease and its associated treatment. However, avaiable literature on cancer a and diet reveals that appropriate dietary information is not widely available to cancer patients from the target communities. The current project aims to address that gap by responding to the needs of this group of patients and their carers by developing appropriate and easily accessible information in partnership with professional experts.

Main Objectives:

  • To Provide dietary information that is cultuarally sensitive
  • To assist patients in coping with cancer treatment and promote self-care by those from the target communities

Advice on overcoming the eating difficulties associated with cancer treatment will be included
  • Provision of information that is culturally sensitive in both content and format. Information will be available to read in 'Plain English'
